Viral Infections : Viruses like the common cold or Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) can lead to ear infections. In younger children , viral infections are more common. Anatomy : Children are more prone to ear infections due to their shorter and more horizontal Eustachian tubes, which connect the middle ear to the back of the throat. These tubes can become blocked, preventing proper drainage of fluid from the middle ear.
