Impetigo is a common and highly contagious bacterial skin infection that primarily affects children, especially those between the ages of 2 and 6 years. It is caused by either Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria and is often spread through direct skin-to-skin contact or by touching contaminated objects. Understanding Impetigo : Types of Impetigo : There are two main types of impetigo: non-bullous (most common) and bullous impetigo. Non-bullous impetigo starts with red sores that quickly turn into blisters, which eventually burst and form yellowish-brown crusts. Bullous impetigo involves larger blisters that are filled with clear yellow fluid. Transmission : Impetigo spreads easily, especially in environments where children are in close contact, such as schools and daycare centers. It can also be spread within a family.
